Tourism Economics

Introduction

Tourism has emerged as a particularly important sector of the economy for many countries, Greece among them. Economically, tourism contributes to the growth of gross domestic product (GDP), creating jobs and generating income for local communities. Investment in tourism has a positive impact on a country’s balance of trade, as tourists spend money on local products and services. Furthermore, tourism contributes to the development of infrastructure such as hotels, restaurants, airports and transport, thereby improving the economic competitiveness of a region.

The Course “ECONOMICS OF TOURISM” can be a major factor in enhancing the professional effectiveness and personal development of those working in the sector, as it gives participants the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills relating to the management of tourism businesses, the promotion of tourism and the development of sustainable tourism practices.

The ultimate aim of the Course is to train learners through asynchronous learning. More specifically, the Course aims both to improve the learner’s position in the labour market and to disseminate scientific knowledge, as it covers topics relating to the Economics of the tourism sector, whose dimensions are analysed and extend across multiple levels. Its main objective is to study the evolution of tourism over time and its economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts.
