Health Economics

Introduction

“Health Economics” is a field of study that combines the principles of economics with the health sector. It focuses on analysing the economic aspects that affect the provision of health services and the structure of health organisations, as well as the mutual interactions between health and the economy. The field covers topics such as the economic analysis of health systems, the evaluation of the efficiency of health services, financing and insurance mechanisms, and the assessment of the social factors that affect access to and equity in health services.

The training Course in “HEALTH ECONOMICS” enables health professionals, such as doctors, administrative staff and economists, to understand the economic aspects of the health sector and to make decisions based on data and analysis. Finally, it promotes a better-informed society that is more aware of health issues, as participants acquire the knowledge and tools to take part in shaping and supporting decisions concerning public health.

The ultimate aim of the Course is to train participants through asynchronous learning and to improve the quality of health unit management using modern tools and practices. More specifically, the Course aims both to improve the participant’s position in the labour market and to disseminate scientific knowledge in practice, giving participants the opportunity to study in depth issues relating to the financial management of health units in a systematic, effective and scientifically sound way, ultimately contributing to the holistic development of the health system.
