Training of Adult Educators

Introduction

The aim of this training Course is to enhance the educational competence of non-formal education trainers who educate and train groups of adults in the subject area of their specialisation, and to provide substantive preparation for prospective adult educators for the educational competence certification examinations of EOPPEP (National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance).

In accordance with paragraph 3 of Article 21 of Law 4115/2013 “Organisation and operation of the Youth and Lifelong Learning Foundation and of the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance and other provisions” (Government Gazette 24/A/30.1.2013), as of 1.9.2013 educational competence is a prerequisite for a trainer to take part in a publicly funded non-formal education course.

Consequently, no adult educator who is not certified by EOPPEP may any longer teach in supplementary education courses, seminars or training sessions organised by Lifelong Learning providers (Universities, Vocational Training Centres) that are funded by the new NSRF and European resources. An educator without certified educational competence may teach only in self-funded courses.

The educational competence certification process for Adult Educators is in line with the content of the certified Occupational Profile of the Adult Educator in force at any given time and corresponds to the Training of Trainers Programme Framework.

The main objectives of the Course are:

  1. Thorough preparation of candidates seeking certification as adult trainers for the EOPPEP examinations
  2. The development and enrichment of interactive educational material to be used in the training course
  3. Contributing to the development of a culture of lifelong learning both among the members of the academic community of the University of Piraeus and more widely
  4. The delivery of a Course of high quality that meets a confirmed need of the labour market, making full use of the potential of ICT in education
