Financial Literacy and Financial Responsibility

Introduction

The training course “Financial Literacy and Financial Responsibility” aims to cover the various aspects of managing our money, with particular emphasis on saving and investing. It brings together the full range of financial knowledge and actions that concern each individual, and citizens as a whole, as they are called upon every day to make financial decisions about their basic short-term financial matters, such as managing their income and expenses, paying bills or settling various debts, as well as about long-term financial matters of the utmost importance, such as their savings plan, their children’s possible education, retirement planning, borrowing and various investment options.

As part of a holistic financial approach, generating income, “smart” spending, drawing up and faithfully following a budget (budgeting), our relationships with banks (banking), protecting ourselves through insurance, investments, retirement planning, sound tax planning and, more generally, the optimal management of our assets are now emerging as a top priority because of global over-indebtedness, the recent pandemic and the surge in inflation. That is why it is important to strengthen our financial knowledge, steering clear of the pitfalls of populism and half-knowledge.

The aim of the Course, therefore, is to provide tools and knowledge for developing financial skills that help young people, and all citizens more generally, to build a stable financial foundation and cope with economic crises. The combination of awareness, knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours is essential for making sound financial decisions, with the ultimate goal of achieving lasting financial well-being. Spreading financial knowledge and developing skills that strengthen our resources will lead us to reduced financial stress and a better quality of life, which is ultimately the fundamental goal of every human being.
